October Stein Round Up

Last week Wednesday, the second Wednesday of the month, was Stein Night at the Come Back in. It was a good night, with much spirited debate, quality beer and many, many opinions. Here is my disordered recollection of the night’s topics:

Democracy in Iraq in 5 years... For any democracy to replace dictatorship there has to be a revolution amongst the common man. Democracy has to be cultivated, it can't be enforced because the moment you start enforcing democracy it is no different from dictatorship.
Plus the other questions on Iraq still remain unanswered - where are the WMDs'? What about links with the Al-Qaeda? Al-Qaeda is still thriving with blasts in various parts of the world becoming an increasingly common occurrence (the latest being in London, Delhi, Jordan). Except for all the world leaders coming out to condole the blasts, is there any concrete plan that any one is talking about to combat the menace of terrorism. And Kevin, my definition of terrorism is killing of innocent humans for a political cause. Political causes used to be just until a few decades ago but the way today’s politicians behave (anywhere in the world) I doubt they can ever come up with a “just” political cause, they just believe in propaganda politics, which will help them retain their chair.
